Heuchera, also known as Coral Bells or Alumroot, is a beautiful and diverse perennial to have in the landscape. Their colorful blooms, long-lasting foliage, interesting textures, and variety of leaf shapes and sizes, contrast and complement a wide variety of other shade perennials.

Although soft shade seems to be the best exposure for most Heucheras, some of the darker-leafed varieties can withstand sunnier locations. Heucheras like well-drained, rich soil, with a good balance of moisture, avoiding conditions that are too wet OR too dry. A protective Winter mulch is also a good idea in the colder months.

Although their striking foliage is often the star or these plants, long-lasting flowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees, also making them an excellent choice for a pollinator-friendly garden. And because their origin is North America, so they are welcome in native gardens as well!
