Consultation and Design

Landscape design is both an art and a science, and is truly one our favorite aspects of what we get to do each day. It allows us to use our creativity and extensive horticultural knowledge to turn dreams into realities.

MEET OUR DESIGNER


Roxanne Olsson is our in house Designer, she is a graduate of U of O with a degree in International Environmental Issues. Her studies included applied ecology for landscape architecture, and field botany/ethnobotany. She has also studied landscape design at Portland Community College.

Roxy believes in creating landscape designs that are environmentally friendly and ecologically sound, the goal is to not just make gardens that are beautiful to look at, but also fun to interact with. It’s about developing human-nature relationships.

DESIGN PACKAGES


Garden Coach Consultation

This consult provides you with an on-site visit from one of our Farmington Gardens design team consultants and includes general gardening advice of existing or new plantings. Our team will assist you with basic planting suggestions, maintenance requirements, plant identification, and answer any other questions you may have concerning your landscape or other services offered by Farmington Gardens.

Who is this good for?

Folks who just want a basic idea or general direction on how to improve their garden and gardening knowledge. Good for those on a budget, or who want to do most of the work themselves.

What you do receive:

  • Suggestions on-site at your property
  • Emailed notes after consultation that can include-
    • Answers to plant care/identification
    • List of specific plant options for particular areas of the landscape
    • General plant placement suggestion and spacing tips
    • Basic measurements

 

What you do not receive:

  • Comprehensive plant list with pictures
  • Precise plant placement
  • Precise measurements of area
  • Plant list review
  • Precise plant quantities
  • Discount on plant material
  • Black and white or colored full landscape hand drawn design

Rate: $125 for the first hour+ $50 for every additional 1/2 hour

DIY Design Package

Receive a consultation on-site at your property where we will discuss your concerns and preferences. We will walk you through basic design concepts and ideas, as well as plant suggestions. Then we will take any necessary measurements, and photos for record. Up to a few weeks after the consultation you will receive a comprehensive plant list tailored to suit preferences, site conditions, and desired functions. You may then opt to schedule a one hour plant list review in our inspiration garden.

Your plant list includes section by section plant recommendations, care tips, plant information, growth size, recommended quantities, and placement with photos of your spaces for reference. At the bottom of the list you will receive your site condition summary and a plant combination review for each garden section.

Who is this good for?

For folks who need a good template of plants that are well-suited to their site conditions, and are selected to meet their personal aesthetic and functional goals. Good for those on a budget, but who want to play designer themselves and tinker with the layout.

  • Comprehensive plant list with pictures
  • Basic measurments
  • Plant list review

 

What you do not receive:

  • Precise plant quantities
  • Precise plant placement
  • Precise measurements of area
  • Discount on plant material
  • Black and white or colored, hand drawn landscape design

Rate: $400 base charge that includes up to 1.5 hr consultation, 1.5 hrs devoted to creating your personally tailored plant list, and a 1 hr plant list review. An added $100 per additional hour can apply if time runs beyond time limits listed.

Full Drawn Design

Receive an on site consultation, which includes an in-depth discussion and walk-through of the areas you want a drawn design of with precise measurements taken and photographs.  The Full Drawn Design options includes two design reviews, a plant list review, initial sketches, final digital copies of the design, original hand-inked black and white design, and a 10% discount on plant materials purchased for the design. 

Who is this for?

Good for those who need a precise vision they can work towards and the most assistance creating their garden. For those who want a garden that is tailored to meet their outdoor living goals, with an ecological, functional, detail oriented, and maintenance considerate perspective.

  • Suggestions on-site at your property
  • Comprehensive Plant List with pictures
  • Plant List Review
  • Precise plant quantities
  • Precise plant placement
  • Precise measurements of area
  • Initial and final design reviews
  • Black and white, hand-drawn, landscape design
  • Plant material discount

 

What you do not receive:

  • Colored, hand painted, landscape design

Rate: $750 base charge (covers up to 1,000 sq.ft. of plant-able space, and up to 1.5hr consultation). Footage beyond 1,000 sq.ft. is charged $1/sq.ft.

Deluxe Design

You may also choose a Deluxe Design, which includes everything listed above with the added benefit of your final design in watercolor. Watercolor designs are one of kind, completely frame-able, and really enhance the vision of the design, giving it depth, texture, and color.

Rate: $100/hr (Total cost dependent on the size of the design).

The above services do not include plant material, plant installation, or delivery charges. Those charges are provided in a quote once customers arrive at the plant ordering stage. At the moment we do not provide hardscaping services, or site preparations (i.e. plant removal, grade changes, irrigation). However, hardscaping can be drawn into the design for landscape contractors we collaborate with to refer to and install.
